Listening to the soft chatter of RainWings all day drove Evening mad with boredom. As she was settled down in the softest nest for miles, curled up comfortably against the feathers and moss and sheep's wool, the night-scaled dragon was almost boiling with the need to do something. Though she quite cherished her precious followers, all the high-pitched squeals of dragonets made Evening almost convinced shutting a few up for good wasn't such a sin as it was a relief. Who would miss those little, annoying balls of uneducated scales anyone? Certainly not the RainWing Queen.
But no. She couldn't fall to the tempting action of silencing those shrieking creatures. As such her title demanded, Evening had a figure to keep up. And wringing the neck of a baby dragon was far from what she wanted to be viewed as. Sure, she was not the nicest dragon around. Evening had quite a reputation for being a bit cold and distanced from the other dragons of her homeland, a reputation not hated by the RainWing herself. Killing the innocent, her own loyal RainWings, should not be added to that though.
Except those RainWings were making things to difficult. Screaming as if the rainforest was on fire. Why couldn't it actually be, so the flames would devour those helpless creatures and leave quiet for the bored Queen? 'Oh, come on, rainforest! At least have a sloth turn rouge, if you can't create fire to destroy those screaming monsters!'
The wind stirred the trees. As if the rainforest was replying to Evening.
And then a hideous shriek from outside sounded, causing the RainWing to jump up in alarm, almost believing a sloth really had gone rouge -- only for the echoing laughter of children to follow suit and tell the deep purple-and-black dragon it was not so. For a moment, she had been afraid her wish had come true, and death had fallen upon those stupid, annoying and helpless dragonets out there. But in the next moments following that, Evening was angry, feeling as if the rainforest had betrayed her by not starting a fire or turning pet sloths aggressive.
With a sigh, Evening realized they probably wouldn't stop. Those dragons were far from finished in their games. She would just have to accept it, and try to ignore their cries.
Except... she really couldn't. 'Three moons, can't they play somewhere AWAY from my hut? Should I scare them away without actually being scary? Oh, who am I kidding, I'm ALWAYS scary -- even when I try not to be! But what do those brats think their doing? Who decided today was "push Queen Evening's buttons" day?'
Oh. She could go on a fly. That sounded much simpler.
Stepping out of her nest and out of her cozy hut, the dark-scaled RainWing found herself in the bright noon sunlight. Her electric blue eyes glowed as she searched the surrounding area, basking in the heat the sun provided, though keeping the relaxed smile off her face. The pretty silver and amethyst jewelry clinging to her neck and around her wrists glistened brightly, catching the attention of nearby children. Children who were far too close for comfort. Were they purposely positioned near the Queen's Hut?
One glided over, catching Evening off-guard. They certainly didn't understand their Queen was not a very friendly one, did they? "Hi, hi, hi Queen Evening! Are you going for a walk?"
Another one piped up, not even a second after the first, her scales shimmering into a pomegranate color. "Can we walk with you? We're the best walkers, ever!"
And then there was another voice, and suddenly there was a mass of rainbows around Evening, and suddenly... three moons, there were dozens of little monsters. And Evening had no clue where they were coming from.
"PLEASE QUEEN EVENING! We'll keep you safe! WE'RE THE BEST GUARDS EVER, PWOMISE!"
Her head spun, "I-I'm quite alright... flying alone...." she tried, only for a high-pitched green dragonet to begin circling around the Queen's head, not helping all the dizziness.
"C'mon, pweeze? Pweeze, Queen Evening, we be the bwest eva! I pwomise! Pwomise, pwomise, pwomise!" cried the little green dragon. There were so many of them... Evening was suffocating in their mess of colorful scales and loud voices.
But before anything went on even further, another female RainWing appeared, much older than Evening. Pointing a black talon at her quickly, Evening drew the attention from her onto this new blue RainWing. "Ah! There's someone to play with! Why don't you go bug her!" And then without looking back, the Queen escaped into the sky at full speed, clearing the distance in a matter of seconds and far from the reach of the children.
Whining, all the children settled down onto the platform and pouted. The confused blue dragon eyed the black speck in the sky, and then the dragonets. With a shrug, she gathered up what bit of patience and playfulness she had left in her younger years, and offered the little beasts a kind smile. "Shall we play a game?" And the cheers sounded.
And lucky Evening escaped... this time.
Probably more than fifty words, but oh well. ^-^ Also this is Rin, yes.
Also I have a question ; What's going on with the NightWings on this site? Are they in the rainforest now, and if so, why do they have a Queen if they're suppose to follow whoever is the RainWing ruler? I'm just curious since you mentioned this follows the books closely. :3
